Orchard Wharf awarded a Commendation at the NLA Awards

Orchard Wharf, a co-location development designed by Howells Architects for Regal with Aukett Swanke and Spacehub, has been recognised as Highly Commended in the mixed use category at the New London Architecture (NLA) Awards. Recognized for its forward-thinking approach, the project integrates riverborne logistics with new residential and public spaces, showcasing a sustainable model for urban development.

Located on a safeguarded wharf, Orchard Wharf will form part of Thames Clippers’ wider future plans to operate a point to point service from logistics hubs along the Thames Gateway into the local area, Canary Wharf and Central London.

The Wharf is designed to support future-proofed river freight operations, enabling electric vessels (e-vessels) to deliver cargo efficiently from river to land and then distributed locally via cargo bikes and electric vans, dramatically reducing road traffic and emissions. This operationally agile hybrid design combines industrial river use with the creation of affordable homes, student housing, and public realm enhancements, setting a benchmark for sustainable mixed-use developments.
