Jamestown Road proposals submitted by Regal and 4C Group for PBSA project

Regal and 4C Group have submitted proposals for affordable homes and student housing in Camden, aiming to deliver 187 student bedrooms, 27 affordable homes, and flexible commercial at 33-35 Jamestown Road and 211 Arlington Road in Camden Town. Following the successful completion of their first joint project, The Haydon in Aldgate, earlier this year, Regal and 4C have once again partnered to deliver thoughtful architecture and biodiverse green spaces.

Designed with reference to Camden’s architectural character, the project, designed by Morris+Company, wraps around a historic 19th-century pub, 31 Jamestown Road, integrating seamlessly with its surroundings while introducing modern, active frontages that bring new life to the area.

The Purpose Built Student Accommodation focuses on well-being, offering a variety of study, social, and relaxation spaces. Central to this is a lush, woodland-inspired courtyard with dense planting and small gathering spaces, providing a peaceful environment for residents and those using the commercial space alike.

The proposals also include 27 dual and triple aspect affordable homes, 35% of the total habitable rooms, with a mix of social rent and intermediate tenures including three maisonettes. With private outdoor spaces and a shared biodiverse garden, these homes are designed to foster community, connection, and everyday enjoyment. The south-facing garden provides natural play areas, diverse planting, and timber features that create a green haven in the heart of the development.

In addition, the proposals also include nearly 3500 sqft of flexible commercial space with an inviting, publicly accessible frontage. These commercial units are designed to attract local businesses, adding vibrancy to the neighbourhood and enhancing economic activity. The commercial space also offers views of the central courtyard, promoting a harmonious balance between urban life and natural beauty.

This new project also addresses Camden’s growing need for purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) in light of its position as London’s fourth-highest borough for student residents. The PBSA offers a range of amenities tailored specifically for students, from study areas to secure, fully managed living arrangements, giving students a convenient, community-oriented living experience near Camden’s landmarks like Camden Lock Market and Regent’s Park.
